Shatrice Blue, Technical Account ManagerYou’re a technical account manager. Tell us about this current position.

As a technical account manager, or TAM, I act as the liaison between clients and our team. I make sure client needs are heard and delivered to the team for action.

How did you end up in the IT industry?

My interest in IT began as a kid. By the age of 14, I was taking apart computers, rebuilding them and re-imaging too. When I joined the army, my recruiter suggested IT as a career path. So I spent 10 years doing IT for the military.

Can you describe your career path from there to here as a technical account manager?

Sure, when I joined iVenture, I started on the FRT (first response team). After 6 months, I moved up to an ITSS (IT support specialist) for a team here in Jacksonville. From there, I was promoted to TAM. Lots of acronyms!

It’s no secret that the IT industry is predominantly male. What’s missing when diversity isn’t a priority?

From my perspective, a lot is missing. And it all stems from a lack of understanding. When you don’t interact with different people, you cannot grow.

My time in the military gave me the opportunity to work with people from all backgrounds. It made me well-rounded, adaptable and confident.

For women looking to be where you are, do you have wisdom to share?

My number one tip is that success is what you make it. If you do the work, you set yourself up to win.

It’s all in your hands. Make sure you do what you have to do.
